Domestic Water Consumption – a Home Water Audit

The following  examples of a home Water Audit take you on a water consumption journey through a typical middle income home with 4 people.  The tables show  consumption in different areas of  a moderate to low consumption household.  How do they compare with your household water use!!

Note that the Standard Liters per activity figures come from a range of sources but mainly from the City of Cape Town Smart Living handbook.   I personally find the Smart living consumption high which is why in some cases the actual water consumption figures used is less than the standard figures.  Every household is different.  How does your domestic water use compare.  Note where the high consumption for this home is!  Showering, watering the garden, flushing the toilet and washing clothes.

Note that in Cape Town households get 6 Kiloliters  ( 6.00o ltrs ) of free water per month.  Consumption above that is charged on a sliding scale.  Click here for the 2013 / 2014  Water Tariffs in Cape Town.
